Travel Diary: Solvang, California

Being from Los Angeles and having lived in Santa Barbara for a short period of time, I never made it out to the cozy Danish town of Solvang. Solvang, historically, is where the Danish came to settle in California, and even though it’s currently not inhabited by Danish people (I asked around), it still has that charm and feel of a cozy Danish town. Every corner was fully detailed, there was unique buildings everywhere and I seriously loved every minute of it.

I went with my best friend of 25 years. It’s only two hours away and 30 min from downtown Santa Barbara. The drive itself was splendid, I love being able to drive on canyon roads and see the beauty of this earth. Before you get to explore the amazing mountains, you get to drive along the beautiful coast which is just…breathtaking.

We went to a cozy little cafe and I tried some Danish sausage and these pancake like glorious treats called Aebleskivers, which were basically heaven in my mouth. So darn good. I’m now craving them as we type. And…I think it’s time to Yelp! where I can find those in Los Angeles.

  1. This was a treat to read. Being from Denmark I would love to visit Solvang and compare it to the Denmark, I’m seeing every day. Oh, and I love aebleskiver as well.
